An approach of geological mapping and geotechnical investigation: Case study from the Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Nepal

Urbanization is rapidly growing throughout the world, especially in least developed and developing countries necessitating proper land use planning. However, lack of sufficient study has created possibility unprecedented geohazards. In this study, a detailed geological engineering mapping along with geotechnical analysis soils sediments from Bhainsepati–Pharsidol area Lalitpur District been carried out. Detailed maps cross-sections were prepared on scale 1:25,000 following most adopted stratigraphy central Nepal for both hard rocks Quaternary deposits. Two mappable units like Tistung Formation Chandragiri Limestone Phulchauki Group are found within rock succession at area’s hill sections. Similarly, mapped into Lukundol Chapagaon Terrace deposits Kathmandu Valley older to younger respectively. There distinct erosional unconformity between sediments. A kinematic discontinuities was out slopes area. Both field laboratory analyses soil samples representative samples. The tests include moisture content, specific gravity, particle size distribution, consistency, compaction, consolidation properties.
